MATCH REPORT

Bamber Bridge 0 Radcliffe Borough 1

Northern Premier League 1st Division North

at QED Stadium, Irongate

Saturday 20th February 2010

By Dave Rowland

Bamber Bridge are in freefall in the First Division North and visitors Radcliffe Borough were only too willing to take advantage. Despite being in the ascendancy for much of the game Brig just couldn’t find their scoring touch in this hard fought Lancashire derby and even contrived to miss a first-half penalty. Boro’ stuck manfully to the task in hand and came away with the points when former Brigger Adam Roscoe put his former colleagues out of their misery with a crisp shot in the 63rd minute.

There was little to choose between the sides in an evenly balanced first half and when Bamber Bridge were awarded a penalty-kick in the 36th minute, after Steve Howson had brought down Peter Wright, the omens looked good for a Brig team who had won just one game out of the last ten. However, Boro goalkeeper Lloyd Rigby, guessed right and sent Wright’s spot kick behind for a corner. It was a spurned opportunity that was to come back and haunt the Irongate-men.

The home team dominated the opening exchanges in the second-half. Brig’s leading marksman Phil Eastwood saw his shot turned onto the crossbar by Rigby in the 53rd minute when Boro were under sustained pressure. Ten minutes later though, the visitors audaciously stole in to score, what in the end turned out to be, the winner. A quick break by the visitors caught the Brig defence square and former Brig man ADAM ROSCOE was on hand to convert a Gary Sampson cross from the left.

Despite all their best efforts, including an effort by Chris Thompson which struck the goalpost, Bamber Bridge were unable to unlock the resilient Boro defence.
