Fylde came out on top of this six-goal derby thriller at Irongate, but there was little to choose between the sides throughout. With the game locked at one each at the interval the game looked to be heading for a stalemate but the ‘Coasters’ stole the show after the break with three strikes after pulling themselves back from a goal down.

Brig took the game to their guests early on and went in front after just 7 minutes when winger CHRIS MARLOW drilled home from just inside the box. Fylde drew level on 20 minutes when full-back RYAN ELDERTON poked the ball through the legs of Brig goalkeeper Ben Hinchcliffe from close range.

It was anybody’s game after the break with little between the sides, but Brig struck first when CHRIS BROWN rifled home a low shot following a Chris Thompson corner on the right after 56 minutes.

The goal galvanised the home side who began to take control of affairs. However, they were completely caught out on 65 minutes when Fylde broke away to equalise for the second time when a speculative shot from distance by JASON DODWELL drifted in at the far post.

Brig stormed the breaches but got caught napping once again in the 81st minute when the visitors took the lead for the first time. Following a breakaway, former Brig man Mark Wane set up substitute MATT WALWYN, who found himself in plenty of room at the back post to plant his shot beyond the stranded Hinchliffe.

Brig fought hard to get back on level terms but with seconds on the clock they conceded a penalty when Brown upended Wane just inside the box and JOE BOOTH stepped up to fire home from the spot.
