Midweek Cup Win Can Be Spur To Success In North East
Brig go to County Durham on Saturday looking for their first ever win at New Ferens Park; the home of former Football League outfit Durham City. The South Ribble side are hoping that it is a matter ‘third time lucky’, after going down 2-3 on a snowy February afternoon in 2008-09; the season City finished as champions in First Division North, and last season when ’The Citizens’ took all three points with a narrow 2-1 win on the 3rd January.
Brig travel to the north east in buoyant mood following the midweek success over local rivals AFC Fylde in the First Round of the League Cup.
With no major injury worries, manager Neil Crowe will have a full squad of players to choose from, as the club go in search of league points. Bamber Bridge are keen to get back amongst the leading pack in the First Division North following the defeat at home to promotion aspirants Curzon Ashton in their last league outing on the 24th September.
Brig have one or two games in hand on the leading group following three successive cup ties. These games, and a couple of early season postponements, have impinged on their league programme, and as a result, the club find themselves playing ’catch-up’ despite the season still being in its relative infancy.
